Guest WebWomble Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 I've seen quite a few posts with details of gearbox problems, particularly with the manual 6-speed VW box fitted to the 115 TDi. I started having problems with the change from 1st to 2nd when my Galaxy was 10 months old. When the car went in for its first service at 11 months, I asked the dealer to check it out. They phoned to say that Ford had instructed them to fit a new gearbox. When I got the car back, I still didn't think it felt right, but ran it for a couple of weeks. At that point it was apparent that the new box was significantly worse than the first. Not only was 1st to 2nd really bad (it can be a struggle to get second, with the lever kicking back against my hand) but other changes up the box were also bad. The box has changed from being very sweet to feeling like its filled with sand. The consensus of other posts has seemed to be 'they're all like that', or 'double declutch or take your time changing'. As it happens, mine is in for the 30000 mile service this week, and I have asked them to investigate the 1>2 cold change problem on mine! I'll keep you posted. Quote
